On June 19th, we left Los Angeles
for Yosemite National Park in Central
California. Since it takes approximately 4 hours to
drive there, we took our time having lunch in LA before heading out to Yosemite. We stayed at Tenaya Lodge located
approximately 2 miles south of the park entrance. This is a family
oriented hotel with both outdoor and indoor swimming pool. The hotel also
has a fitness center so I can do my exercise.
During our first day at Yosemite, we mainly explored the Yosemite Village. For those who had not
visited the park before, Yosemite
Village is a main
point of interest with many short and easy hikes nearby. There are also
shops and waterfalls to explore. Since the number of visitors has
increased dramatically in recent years, it is recommended that we park
our car at the main parking lot and take the free shuttle bus to get
around the park. We first took a short walk to the Bridal Vail Fall at
the heart of Yosemite
Village. Due to
heavy rain fall earlier this year, the falls in Yosemite
are especially wet. We definitely got our feet wet going near the fall.
We also took a relatively easy and short hike to the mirror lake just
outside the village.
We got to the park early on our second day to drive to Mariposa
Grove to see the giant Sequoia trees. We were one of the early birds to
get there so there were plenty of parking for us. We hiked about 2 hours
through the woods to see the Sequoia tree up close. We also joined the
tram tour with audio explanation about these tough giant trees. We also
drove to the Glacier Point for the view. On the way there, we noticed
snow was still visible along the sides of the road. When we got to
Glacier Point, we all enjoyed a breath taking paramedic view of Yosemite. On this day, we noticed a big stone resemble
the face of Simba of the Disney Movie “The Lion King”. We had fun looking
at it.
The next day, we left Yosemite for San Francisco. On our way out of the
park, we stopped by the Yosemite Lower
Fall, a short distance from the village. This fall does not require
hiking. It only takes a short walk from the side of the road to get
there. Be prepare to get wet approaching the fall.
